American oyster is an edible and commercially important species. People who consume raw oysters can get infected by pathogenic bacteria. The objective of this study is to investigate bacterial pathogens in oyster inhabiting Brownsville waters. Our results suggest that the American oyster is prone to water-borne pathogens in Brownsville waters.
